New Traffic Rules 2025 :  The Government of India has been continuously taking various measures to improve road safety. Recently, the government has implemented new penalties and punishments under the Motor Vehicle Rules. These new fines and punishments came into effect from March 1, 2025. According to the new rules, traffic fines have been increased up to 10 times compared to before. If you are still unaware of these new traffic regulations, here’s a detailed explanation of how much fine and punishment you may face for violating them.

Drunk Driving Will Cost You Heavily

If you are caught driving under the influence of alcohol, you will now face a fine of ₹10,000 and up to 6 months of imprisonment. Earlier, this fine ranged between ₹1,000 to ₹1,500. If you are caught for a second time, the penalty increases to ₹15,000 and up to 2 years in jail.

Punishment for Not Wearing a Helmet

If you ride a two-wheeler without wearing a helmet, you will be fined ₹1,000, and your driving license may be suspended for three months. Earlier, the fine for this offense was only ₹100. Similarly, if you are caught driving a car without wearing a seat belt, you will have to pay a ₹1,000 fine.

Using a Mobile Phone While Driving

If you are found using a mobile phone while driving, you will now be fined ₹5,000. Earlier, the penalty for this violation was only ₹500.

Incomplete or Missing Vehicle Documents

  • If you are caught driving without a driving license, you will be fined ₹5,000.
  • If you do not have vehicle insurance, you will have to pay a ₹2,000 fine, along with up to 3 months of imprisonment and community service.
  • Driving without a Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate will result in a ₹10,000 fine, 6 months in jail, and community service.
  • If you are caught a second time without valid insurance, the fine will be ₹4,000.

Triple Riding on Two-Wheeler

  • If you are caught riding three people on a two-wheeler (triple riding), you will be fined ₹1,000.
  • Dangerous driving or participating in racing will attract a ₹5,000 fine.
  • Additionally, if you block the way of emergency vehicles such as ambulances, you will be fined ₹10,000.

Fine for Jumping Signals and Overloading

According to the new rules, jumping a red signal will cost you a ₹5,000 fine, while overloading a vehicle will result in a ₹20,000 fine.

Strict Rules for Underage Drivers

  • Traffic rules for underage drivers have become even stricter.
  • If a minor is caught violating traffic rules, the vehicle owner or guardian will face a ₹25,000 fine, 3 years of imprisonment, and cancellation of vehicle registration.
  • Additionally, the minor will not be eligible for a driving license until the age of 25.
