To strengthen the metro network in Delhi, the government is now working on several major rail projects. The city is witnessing a rapid expansion of metro lines, and there’s good news for the residents of the national capital — DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) is set to construct a new metro line in Delhi along with the development of 27 new metro stations.
The government is accelerating the expansion of the Delhi Metro, and DMRC has taken charge of this mission. The corporation is working tirelessly to connect every corner of the capital through its metro network. This new project will not only add more routes but will also improve connectivity across the city.
Underground Metro Line Work in Full Swing
Under Phase 4 of the Delhi Metro project, construction of a 40.109 km new underground metro line is currently in progress. This phase includes nearly 86 km of new lines across five different corridors, marking a major engineering challenge as these underground routes pass through various geological layers. The project covers some of the most crowded residential and commercial areas such as Sadar Bazar, Nabi Karim, Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, Ajmal Khan Park, and New Delhi.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is speeding up the work to ensure that metro connectivity reaches every corner of the city. As part of the Phase 4 expansion, DMRC is constructing over 40 km of underground metro lines and stations.
27 New Underground Metro Stations to be Built
In this phase, five different metro corridors are being built, covering around 86 kilometers of new track. Nearly half of this length will be underground. According to DMRC officials, 27 new underground metro stations are being constructed as part of Phase 4. The corporation has already completed construction of around 2 kilometers of underground metro stations from Janakpuri West to Krishna Park, which is an extension of the Magenta Line.
Upcoming Metro Corridors
To enhance passenger convenience in the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi, the metro network expansion is moving at a faster pace. The Central Government has already approved the construction of a new Delhi Metro corridor earlier this year. According to the proposed plan, the metro line will pass through Kartavya Path, connecting North Block and South Block. This corridor falls under the Central Vista Redevelopment Project, where the National Museum is also proposed to be located.
Stations to Be Built on the New Corridor
Once the new Delhi Metro corridor is completed, it will help decongest the heavily crowded areas of the capital. The development of Kartavya Path has significantly increased the number of tourists visiting the area. The proposed metro corridor will include stations at major landmarks such as Bharat Mandapam, India Gate, North Block, and South Block.
This new phase of the Delhi Metro expansion marks another milestone in improving urban transport, reducing congestion, and enhancing connectivity in one of the busiest cities in the world.
