According to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) holiday schedule, banks in certain parts of the country will remain closed from October 27 to November 2 due to Chhath Puja and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Jayanti. Banks to Remain Closed Due to Chhath Puja
As you all know, the festival of Chhath Puja is being celebrated. In Kolkata, Patna, and Ranchi, banks will remain closed on Monday, October 27, and in Patna and Ranchi, banks will also remain closed on Tuesday, October 28.
In fact, banks in Patna and Ranchi will remain closed for four consecutive days, including the weekend holidays.
Chhath Puja, the four-day festival dedicated to Lord Surya (the Sun God), will be celebrated from October 25 to 28. It is primarily observed in Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Nepal. During this festival, devotees express gratitude to the Sun God for sustaining life and pray for health, prosperity, and well-being through fasting, taking holy dips in rivers, and offering prayers to the setting and rising sun. Due to this festival, banks in these states will remain closed.
Banks to Remain Closed on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Jayanti
On Friday, October 31, 2025, banks in Ahmedabad will remain closed in honor of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Jayanti.
Sardar Patel played a leading role in India’s freedom movement and served as the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India from 1947 to 1950.
Bank Holidays for Kannada Rajyotsava and Igas Bagwal
In Bengaluru, banks will remain closed on Saturday, November 1, on the occasion of Kannada Rajyotsava, which marks the formation of the state of Karnataka.
In Dehradun, banks will also remain closed on Saturday, November 1, on the occasion of Igas Bagwal, which is celebrated 11 days after Diwali in Uttarakhand.
Igas Bagwal is observed on Kartik Shukla Ekadashi and symbolizes the end of Lord Vishnu’s four-month rest period (Chaturmas), marking an auspicious time for new beginnings.
It is also believed that when news of Lord Ram’s return to Ayodhya reached Uttarakhand, the locals celebrated their version of Diwali 11 days later, which became Igas Bagwal.
Banks Will Remain Open in Other Parts of the Country
Except for Bengaluru and Dehradun, banks across the rest of India will remain open on Saturday, November 1, 2025, as it is the first Saturday of the month.
According to the RBI calendar, banks generally remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, along with all Sundays.
Hence, on Sunday, November 2, 2025, banks will be closed nationwide as per the weekly holiday schedule.
