Weather Update : According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in some regions. The IMD has predicted heavy rain in Kerala and Tamil Nadu at isolated places. Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon has withdrawn from parts of Karnataka, Telangana, most parts of Maharashtra, the entire Goa region, Madhya Pradesh, parts of Uttar Pradesh, all of Chhattisgarh, parts of Bihar, the entire Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, and some areas of Northeast India.
As per the weather department, between October 14 and October 19, there is a high possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Mahe (from October 14 to 16), as well as in South Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema (on October 17 and 18). Light to heavy rainfall may also occur at isolated places in Lakshadweep.
According to the IMD report, winds with speeds ranging from 40 to 50 km/h are expected in some regions during the next four to five days. The department has also warned of possible thunderstorm activity during this period.
Thunderstorm Possibility in Chhattisgarh and Odisha till October 15
According to the IMD, thunderstorms with lightning are likely to occur over Chhattisgarh (October 14–15), Vidarbha (October 14–16), and Odisha (October 14–15).
Goa and Maharashtra Likely to Experience Thunderstorms till October 17
The weather department has predicted that between October 14 and 17, Konkan and Goa regions, as well as Madhya Maharashtra, are likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning. Additionally, Marathwada may witness thunderstorm activity between October 14 and 16.
Warning Issued for Fishermen
Arabian Sea: Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the Kerala coast, Lakshadweep, and Comorin areas, and nearby regions due to rough sea conditions.
Bay of Bengal: Similarly, fishermen have been warned not to venture into the Tamil Nadu coast and adjoining sea areas from October 16 to 17, including the Gulf of Mannar region, due to likely rough weather conditions.
Summary:
Between October 15 and 19, parts of South India—especially Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka—are expected to witness heavy rainfall, strong winds, and thunderstorms. Meanwhile, Goa, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha may also experience stormy weather during this period. Fishermen have been urged to avoid venturing into rough seas in both the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal.
