To further improve the metro network, authorities are now preparing to construct a new metro line in the Delhi-NCR region. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed route is already being prepared. Once this new line becomes operational, connectivity across major NCR cities will significantly improve.
Where the New Metro Line Will Be Built
The residents of Palwal district, which is adjacent to Faridabad, will soon have easier access to Delhi. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the metro route from Ballabhgarh to Palwal has already been completed. To connect Faridabad with Delhi via metro, this new line will soon be laid down.
According to recent reports, the construction work on the new Delhi NCR Metro Line is expected to begin soon. This information was shared by Haryana’s Minister of State for Sports, Gaurav Gautam, during a press conference held at the Magpie Tourist Complex.
Improved Connectivity Across Cities
Currently, the metro operates from Badarpur Border to Ballabhgarh Station. Minister Gaurav Gautam informed that while the DPR does not yet specify how many new stations will be built between Ballabhgarh and Palwal, the file is currently under review by the authorities.
Once the metro reaches Palwal, the region’s connectivity with Delhi, Faridabad, Noida, and Ghaziabad will improve significantly. At present, the main public transport options for Palwal residents are passenger trains and Haryana Roadways buses.
Benefits of the New Metro Line
The new metro line will particularly benefit students studying at Delhi University and employees working in Delhi, Faridabad, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Greater Noida. Daily commuters will have a more convenient and comfortable journey, and traffic congestion on the roads will be reduced.
According to estimates, around 3,000–4,000 students from Palwal travel to Delhi University and other higher educational institutions every day. Additionally, about 8,000–9,000 people commute daily to Delhi and nearby districts for work, while thousands visit the capital for business purposes. The metro expansion will greatly ease travel for all these groups and enhance overall regional connectivity.
HMRTC Managing Director Chandrashekhar Khare stated that the geographical study of the route is in its final stage. The study aims to determine passenger traffic potential and finalize the exact metro route. Construction work on the project will begin soon.
Gurugram Connection Awaiting Budget Approval
Plans to connect Faridabad and Gurugram via metro have been under discussion for several years. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this route has already been completed, and all necessary government approvals have been secured. However, the project is awaiting budget allocation for metro station construction. Once operational, the Faridabad-Gurugram metro will further enhance intercity connectivity within NCR.
Metro Service in Faridabad Began in 2015
Faridabad received its first metro service in 2015 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the line. Initially, the metro ran from Faridabad to ITO, and within nine months, it was extended up to Kashmere Gate. The launch of metro services greatly simplified daily travel for Faridabad residents, connecting them more efficiently to the heart of Delhi.
