8th Pay Commission : More than one crore central government employees and pensioners have been eagerly waiting for the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission. Recently, big news has emerged regarding the new pay commission. According to the latest reports, the government is soon expected to issue a notification for the 8th Pay Commission. Once implemented, there will be a significant increase in employees’ salaries, along with hikes in various allowances. Let’s find out below when the new pay commission will come into effect.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government approved the formation of the 8th Pay Commission in January 2025. It has now been more than 10 months, yet the new pay commission has not been implemented. A new report has surfaced that reveals when the 8th Pay Commission might finally be enforced.
Over one crore central employees and pensioners across India have been waiting eagerly for its implementation, hoping for a substantial increase in their basic pay and pension. Meanwhile, the central government is expected to make a new announcement regarding the 8th Pay Commission soon. As per reports, the obstacles in the process are likely to be resolved shortly. However, the government has not yet constituted the committee or announced the names of its members.
When will the notification be issued?
It has been over 10 months since the approval of the 8th Pay Commission, but the official notification has not yet been released. A few months ago, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary stated in the Rajya Sabha that the notification for the commission is still pending. He also mentioned that although the final decision has not been taken, the preparations are in progress.
Expected date for the notification
Earlier, several media reports suggested that the central government might issue the notification by Diwali, but no such announcement was made during the festival. Now, new reports claim that the government may release the notification in November 2025. However, there has been no official confirmation from the government so far. Once the notification is issued, the chairman and members of the commission will be appointed. Experts believe that the government will not take much longer to prepare the draft of the 8th Pay Commission since the 7th Pay Commission’s tenure will end in December 2025, after which the government will have to act quickly.
Why the 8th Pay Commission is important
The government introduces a new pay commission every 10 years to revise the basic salary, allowances, and pensions of employees in order to provide relief from rising inflation. The new pay commission directly benefits government employees by increasing their overall pay structure and allowances.
Allowances likely to be discontinued under the 8th Pay Commission
Although the 8th Pay Commission has not yet been implemented, several major updates have already surfaced. According to reports, once the 8th Pay Commission comes into effect, a few allowances may be discontinued. These could include Travel Allowance, Special Duty Allowance, minor regional allowances, and some departmental allowances such as old Typing or Clerical Allowances. However, no official confirmation has been made by the government regarding these changes yet.
