RBI’s Guidelines Regarding Fake Notes
The RBI received multiple complaints that fake ₹500 notes were being circulated in the market. Following these reports, the RBI released new guidelines on the ₹500 note. These fake notes are not limited to market transactions — some have even been found coming out of ATMs. Banks have also received such counterfeit notes, which are detected in currency chests.
Sometimes, damaged or torn notes are also dispensed from ATMs. In such cases, people can show the ATM slip at the respective bank branch to get the note replaced.
